I'm the only one on planet earth who would do this. But die hard fans understand that when the team takes the field, it's serious business, even when the games don't count. Here they are in all their unofficial semi-glory! My top five preseason games in Texans history.
5 – Texans 24 Dallas 6 – August 29, 2013
I know it was the fourth preseason game but it was the first trip to Jerry-World and Case Keenum got the start. There were a ton of Battle Red clad supporters in the stands and it all made for a fun night, under the circumstances.
4 – Texans 24 Kansas City 14 – August 12, 2006
Following a 2-14 season, getting a win of any kind was a relief if not exhilarating. The new coaching staff was surprised at the rowdy locker room after the game but they weren't here for the nightmare of 2005. Wali Lundy was the offensive star with 59 yards on nine carries, in case you were wondering.
3 – Texans 28 Dallas 16 – August 26, 2007
It was probably the loudest preseason game in the home stadium's history. A big memory was Houston's number two defense, early in the second half, picking off Tony Romo and the Cowboy 'ones,' courtesy of Fred Bennett.
2 – Texans 18 Denver 17 – August 23, 2014
Tom Savage led the team down the field in the final moments, hitting Ryan Griffin with a 31 yard TD pass late. Nobody wants overtime in the preseason, so Bill O'Brien went for two as Savage connected with Travis Labhart on the winning conversion. It was the preseason version of bliss.
1 – Texans 13 Saints 10 – August 9, 2002
This was the very first win of any kind in the history of the franchise. David Carr went 9-14, Jonathan Wells rushed for 50 yards and a TD and the defense racked up five sacks on what, relatively, was a very satisfying evening.
