Two and 'Oh My' | Vanderblog

Ka'imi Crushes It

Ka'imi Fairbairn won't lead any SportsCenter highlight show. But maybe he should.

The veteran placekicker has connected on seven out of seven field goal tries, including six from 50 yards or beyond. He's the first kicker in NFL history to have five or more field goals from 50+ in the first two games.

Knowing he has a placekicker who can make field goals from the outer rings of Saturn has to be a big boost for Head Coach DeMeco Ryans as he watches his team carve out two close victories in the first two weeks of the season.

Another Down-to-the-Wire game

The H-Town Heart-Stoppers were at it again in the Sunday night 19-13 win over the Bears. There we were, once again, in a final drive situation with the Texans locking up a tense and exhilarating win over a hungry team.

Caleb Williams was tough to bring down, yet the squad managed seven sacks and other pressures to put the brakes on several Chicago drives. Back-to-back 4th quarter picks by Derek Stingley Jr. and rookie Kamari Lassiter dramatically helped the cause. Stopping the running game for the second consecutive week was a big key to the win.

Getting their own ground game cranked up was another story. Joe Mixon got banged up but returned to the game. Cam Akers looked good and led the team in rushing. But a fumble stopped what could have been a game-sealing TD. Still, he's talented and will be effective.

The Bears' D made sure the Texans never got really rolling with their attack.

Nico's Not Stopping

But don't tell that to Nico Collins, who went over the century mark again and caught his first TD of the year. He has 14 catches already, on the campaign. The third-round draft choice from 2021 has turned into one of the very best in the game.

As usual, we could make this whole piece about C.J. Stroud, who continues to play well, in his second season. With defensive coordinators working overtime to stop him, he continues to find ways to win.

Sunday was 'perfect,' with all three AFC South foes losing. To keep the record perfect, the Texans will have to defeat a 2-0 Vikings team next week on the road. The Texans have never beaten Minnesota. It's time.
