Beginning July 24, Everton Football Club of the English Premier League will be
in Houston to compete in the second-annual Copa de Tejas international soccer
tournament at Reliant Stadium.
Everton's tradition runs deeper than that of any other premiere league team. The
club's history parallels NFL franchises like Green Bay, who boasts a leauge-leading
12 World Championships. When comparing Everton to the best of Major League Baseball,
the Everton Club holds a close second next to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The roster garners international acclaim, featuring ten World Cup team players
from eight different countries. England's own 18-year-old phenom, Wayne Rooney,
will be playing in Copa de Tejas, as well as Scotland's James McFadden. Rooney
is one of the league's top scorers with nine goals thus far and previously became
the youngest scorer in a UEFA European Championship finals match, surpassing the
record of Yugoslavia's Dragan Stojkovic, who was eight months older when he scored
against France in 1984.
Rooney eventually tallied four goals in helping England advance to the quarterfinals
of Euro 2004.
Two-game packages are available now.
"This is a rare opportunity for Houston-area sports fans to see international
soccer stars from the world's best soccer league in an up-close and personal setting,"
said Texans Senior Vice President Jamey Rootes.
Come out and join us for this year's world class Copa de Tejas!
