Texans rookie quarterback T.J. Yates is nominated for both NFL Rookie of the Week and Never Say Never Moment of the Week honors for his performance in the win at Cincinnati.
Yates completed 26-of-44 passes for 300 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Texans' 20-19 win over the Bengals. He added five carries for 36 yards. Also, he tossed the game-tying touchdown pass to wide receiver Kevin Walter with two seconds left. Preceding the play, Yates led the Texans 80 yards with no timeouts facing a 19-13 deficit with a bit more than two minutes remaining. (**VIDEO**)
"I knew we were moving the ball well all game long, but we just weren't converting," Yates said of the final drive. "Whether it was turnovers or something else, we just weren't getting the job done. We were moving the ball great, but we just knew we had to finish. When everyone went out there, we were calm and we were ready to go. We knew that we were going to move it down the field. We just had to convert when the time came."
For Rookie of the Week, Yates is competing with Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, Titans quarterback Jake Locker and Lions wide receiver Titus Young.
