James Liipfert enters his third year with the Houston Texans and serves as the director of college scouting. Liipfert runs the college scouting operation in its preparation for fall scouting, all-star games, the NFL Combine, pro days and the NFL Draft.
Prior to joining the Texans, Liipfert spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots, where he was part of nine division titles, four AFC championships and victories in Super Bowl XLIX and LI. He spent his final three seasons as a national scout (2015-17) after four years as an area scout (2011-14) and two as a scouting assistant (2009-10).
Liipfert came to the Patriots following his graduation from Georgia Tech, where he was a three-year letterman as a linebacker and special teams player for the Yellow Jackets. He received his bachelor's degree in management in December 2008.
Originally from Marshallville, Ga., Liipfert graduated from Westfield High School, where he earned all-state honors in both football and baseball.
Liipfert resides in Manvel, Texas with his wife, Lacy, and son, Bo, and daughter, Campbell.
