C.J. Stroud makes preseason debut, connects with Tank Dell for TD pass

PRE1

In his 2024 preseason debut, C.J. Stroud only needed six snaps to help the Texans get six points.

On the Texans second offensive possession, of the game, Stroud handed off to running back Dameon Pierce for a 2-yard gain, and then was flushed to his right from the pocket and threw incomplete to tight end Dalton Schultz.

But on 3rd-and-8 at the Steelers 34-yard line, Stroud zipped one just inside the numbers around the 20-yard line where a streaking Dell fluidly pulled it in and broke a couple tackles before getting into the end zone.

The Ka'imi Fairbairn extra point try was good, and the Texans were up, 7-0, on the Steelers with 6:17 left in the opening quarter.

On the opening drive, Stroud connected with rookie tight end and former Ohio State teammate Cade Stover for a pickup of seven yards, but fired long to Schultz up the right sideline on third down.

After the touchdown strike, Stroud's night was complete. He completed 2-of-4 passes for 41 yards, and gave way to backup quarterback Davis Mills.
