*HOUSTON - Hundreds of students from 13 HISD schools in the Reagan High School feeder pattern
will take part in a Festival of the Arts on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to
2 p.m. on the Reagan campus (413 East 13th, 77008).
The Festival of the Arts is a family-oriented event designed to strengthen community and school relationships while promoting the importance of arts in public education. The festival will showcase more than 30 different performing ensembles from all 13 HISD schools in the Reagan feeder pattern. It also will feature more than 100 different pieces of art created by students.
Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase to benefit Reagan High School, Hamilton Middle School, Hogg Middle School and Crockett Elementary. The festival also will include a moonwalk, face painting, piñatas, and other family activities.
The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation has generously underwritten the festival. The McNair Foundation has provided funding for numerous fine arts and education-outreach programs in the Reagan feeder pattern schools, including scholarships for fine-arts activities over the summer, classroom supplies, and equipment. Additional festival sponsors include the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the Children's Museum of Houston.
The following arts organizations will be represented at the festival with either a booth or a performance: A.D. Players, Alley Theatre, Bridges Academy of Fine Arts, Chrysalis Dance Company, City Artworks, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Da Camera of Houston, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Houston Community College-Central Department of Fine Arts, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Interactive Theater, Mercury Baroque, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Opera in the Heights and Young Audiences of Houston.
