The first round of cheer tryouts just wrapped up after two hours of competition. Votes from the judges' panel are being tallied now, and a group of more than 500 contestants will be cut down to about 200 before the next round.
Cheerleader services manager Alto Gary and her team of instructors will select 75 semifinalists from the group of 200, with the third round beginning on Sunday. Sunday will end with 50 finalists remaining.
