The Houston Texans Foundation donated $25,000 to Hope Lodge Houston during Sunday's game at Reliant Stadium. Hope Lodge Houston, as part of the American Cancer Society's mission to save lives and relieve suffering from cancer, is a residence that will provide lodging at no cost to cancer patients visiting the Greater Houston area.

Expected to break ground in the new year, the center will offer free accommodations and transportation for 62 patients and their caregivers in a unique homelike setting that addresses their specific needs. The Texans' contribution assisted in bringing Hope Lodge one step closer to their goal of raising $30 million to construct and operate the largest facility of its kind in the country.

Texans Founder and CEO Bob McNair and his wife Janice McNair personally contributed $1,000,000 to the initiative and are the proud chairs of the fundraising campaign. The McNairs are passionate about the project and view Hope Lodge as a powerful extension to the city's already prestigious medical district.

"This is very important, we believe," Bob McNair said in a Hope Lodge campaign video. "It's a great addition to the Texas Medical Center which is the finest and largest in the world. Houston is a very generous community; it always leads the way."

"Houston is such a can-do city," Janice McNair added. "We really want to be the best, and I think we've proven that we are such a caring city. We're just so proud to be a part of this and proud of the American Cancer Society."

Hope Lodge Houston is expected to provide approximately 23,000 nights of free lodging annually. All individuals who meet the eligibility requirements will be welcomed.

"We know how difficult it is for families who have a person in the family that has been struck with this disease," McNair said. "We know how important support is, we know how important their mental state is. So the more comfortable they can be, the more support that they have, the more successful they therapy is going to be."
