Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Week Award winner head coach Sonny Karas of Spring High School
Spring's Sonny Karas and Yates' Clarence McKinney were named the Houston Texans High School Coach of the Week Award winners.
This week's Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach Sonny Karas of Spring High School. Coach Karas' Lions defeated the former 5A sixth-ranked Stratford Spartans 29-24 in a hard fought battle. Spring running back Kurtis Shaw put on a show with 107 yards on the ground, 75 yards receiving, and two trips to the end-zone.
This week's Houston Texans 4A-under Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach Clarence McKinney of Yates High School. After a scoreless 1st quarter, McKinney's Lions pulled out a close victory over Madison High School 30-24. Lions' QB Darveon Trahan led the way with his aerial attack of three touchdowns and 124 yards passing.
Spring High School and Yates High School will each receive a $500 grant in their coach's name for winning the Texans Coach of the Week Award. Also, each coach will be recognized on HoustonTexans.com and NFLHS.com, and on the video board at Reliant Stadium. Coach Karas and Coach McKinney will also be invited to the Texans vs. Saints game on November 18 and will be recognized at the Texans High School Coach of the Year Banquet after the season. Fox Sports Net Houston and the US Army are associate sponsors of the Texans Coach of the Week Program.
