South Houston's C.L. Whittington and Bay City's Danny Edelman were named the Houston Texans High School Coach of the Week Award winners in Week 3.
This week's Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach C.L. Whittington of South Houston High School. Coach Whittington's Trojans defeated the Alvin Yellowjackets on the road 28-14 in a game that featured an explosive offense and ball-hawking defense. Trojans wide receiver Jahmai Coleman made a statement and seemed almost immune to pass coverage by reeling in six balls for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Milton Howell, the Trojans starting quarterback, also showcased his versatility by throwing for 267 yards, rushing for 66 yards, and scoring three of South Houston's four touchdowns.
This week's Houston Texans 4A-under Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach Danny Edelman of Bay City High School. In a close match-up that featured two high-powered offenses, Coach Edelman's Blackcats edged out the Brenham Cubs 42-40 at home. Blackcats starting quarterback Shaun Rutherford seemed to be on target all night, throwing for an astounding 378 yards and four passing touchdowns. Coach Edelman's Blackcats improved to 2-2 with their victory over the Brenham Cubs.
South Houston High School and Bay City High School will each receive a $500 grant in their coach's name for winning the Texans Coach of the Week Award. Also, each coach will be recognized on HoustonTexans.com and NFLHS.com, and on the video board at Reliant Stadium. Coach Whittington and Coach Edelman will also be invited to the Texans vs. Saints game on November 18 and will be recognized at the Texans High School Coach of the Year Banquet after the season.
