New Airport Lot Just 10 Minutes Away!
In addition to watching some of the best golfers in the world compete in the 2008 Shell Houston Open, parking at the PGA Tour event will be more convenient.
The Houston Golf Association has announced a partnership with the Houston Airport System and City of Houston for public parking during the SHO, April 3-6 at Redstone Golf Club's Tournament Course.
New public parking for the SHO will be in a city-owned lot just past Greens Road adjacent to JFK Boulevard.
The city-owned Parking Cents overflow lot, located off JFK Boulevard, can be accessed from U.S. 59, I-45, Beltway 8 and the Hardy Toll Road. The concrete surface lot has 4,000 parking spaces and can accommodate bus traffic. Previously, public parking has been at Greenspoint Mall.
It will be a 10-minute bus trip from the lot to the tournament bus plaza at Redstone Golf Club. Roundtrip bus rides will be $5 Thursday through Sunday of tournament week.
Youngsters 13-and-under accompanied by a ticket-holding adult can ride free.
Mickelson and Els Both Committed to Houston and SHO; SHO Tournament Field Showcases Best in the World
World ranked international stars, Ernie Els (No. 4), Adam Scott (No. 8) and Phil Mickelson (No. 2) are among the early commits for the Shell Houston Open.
With 32 career victories since making his professional debut at the 1992 U.S. Open, Mickelson ranks second among active players and is tied for 13th all-time with Horton Smith. He has finished second or third on the money list seven times including six of the last eight seasons. He has finished in the top 10 at eight of the last nine Masters Tournaments, including wins in 2004 and 2006. As at the '04 Masters, his 2005 PGA Championship win came with a birdie on the final hole. A member of the last six Ryder Cup teams, he is the only U.S. Player to appear in all seven Presidents Cups.
Els, currently No. 5 in the world rankings, will be making his first start on the Redstone Golf Club-Tournament Course the week of March 31-April 6. The last time Els teed it up in Houston was 2003 when the Shell Houston Open was played on the Member Course at Redstone Golf Club.
Scott posted a three-stroke victory in 2007 at the Shell Houston Open, nudging out fellow Australian Appleby, who won in Houston in 1999 and in 2006 when the event made its debut on the Tournament Course.
The Shell Houston Open is played the week prior to The Masters, golf's first major championship. Last year it attracted 23 players with invitations to play in The Masters.
"We got rave reviews on our golf course set up last last year," said Steve Timms, Shell Houston Open tournament director. "We believe that will pay dividends this year."
