Texans donate $25K to YMCA for flag football | Daily Brew

The Houston Texans have announced a $25,000 donation to the YMCA of Greater Houston to enable all youth participants at the Houston Texans YMCA to receive a full scholarship to play flag football at the YMCA as well as to provide transportation, coaches and snacks for the spring season. Registration for flag football at the YMCA for boys and girls ages six to 11 is now open and can be completed online and in person until March 19, with select YMCA locations offering additional opportunities for 12- and 13-year-olds to play. The flag football season will begin in early April with over 16 YMCAs participating. Each year the Houston Texans and YMCA flag football season focuses on engaging youth in the game of football to learn the fundamentals of the sport as well as sportsmanship and values that will help them be successful in life.

The donation provided by the Texans will enable 100 youth to play flag football at no cost. Located in Houston's Greater Third Ward, the Houston Texans YMCA is the heart of the partnership between the Houston Texans and the YMCA of Greater Houston. The Houston Texans Y, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in January, provides programs in health and wellness, youth sports, childcare and senior services. In addition to the Houston Texans YMCA, scholarships will also be offered to youth across the YMCA service network to enable any child that wishes the opportunity to play at their home YMCA regardless of financial situation.
