Texans Cheerleader Celina helps present a check to doctors from the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center.
The Texans presented a check for $50,000 to the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center on Saturday morning prior to the start of the 2008 Texans Cheerleaders tryouts at the Methodist Training Center.
The check is the result of a partnership between the team and the hospital in which the net proceeds from the sale of the first-ever Houston Texans Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar went to benefit the hospital.
"We are very fortunate to have this partnership with the Houston Texans," said Dr. Miguel Valderrabano, Chief of Electrophysiology at the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center. "Thanks to this partnership, I was able to get a grant to sponsor research in developing a new treatment for heart disease."
The calendars debuted in November at all Academy Sports and Outdoors locations in the Houston area.
"The calendar launch was such a great event and it will now it will help so many people," Academy representative Jason Wooden said. "What we did at Academy was be the exclusive distribution center of the calendars. People could come to our stores, all 23 locations in Houston, and purchase the calendar for $10, which was a donation that went straight back to the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center."
2007 calendar cover girl Celina presented the check to representatives from The Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center.
"This was such and amazing experience," Celina said. "And the best part about it is that 100 percent went to charity."
