Will Fuller's progress after first week of camp

After his first week of training camp, Will Fuller is making strides. There's one area in particular where the rookie has seen his biggest improvement.

"Just getting on top of that playbook and being able to do whatever my coach wants me to do," Fuller said Saturday.

Getting first-team reps with the starting quarterback during team drills helps. Fuller takes advantage of his opportunities with Brock Osweiler during their team drills. The two communicate often after plays and the chemistry is growing.

"Brock does a good job reaching out when he wants something done differently or he does something good, he'll let you know so the chemistry is good because he communicates so much," Fuller said. "It's real good for the receivers."

Fuller wanted to be as ready for training camp as he could be. After being drafted in April, he immediately moved to Houston. Before he had his own apartment, Fuller stayed with teammate Jaelen Strong. The two, who played against each other in Philadelphia at rival high schools, remained close over the years and even during the draft process. Fuller leaned on the second-year wide receiver, who has been one of the most improved on the team by head coach Bill O'Brien.

"I definitely leaned on J a lot," Fuller said. "Especially, when I first got here I was staying with him and learning the playbook as soon as I came so Jaelen's taken me in real good and teaching me things I need to know."

After six training camp practices, the Texans first-round pick knows where he wants to improve. As all the rookies adapt to the nature of an NFL training camp and the speed of the game, Fuller hopes to do the same.

"Just need to be a little more physical with the cornerbacks," Fuller said. "Everybody up here is a lot stronger than in college so just being more physical and staying on top of my body."

Training camp is currently underway at the Houston Methodist Center. The Texans will travel to San Francisco for their first preseason game on Sunday, Aug. 14 with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT.
