Got a question about the Texans?
Life in general?
Drew Dougherty's your guy.
He's been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking HERE.
Kathy Coplen: Dear Drew, What's our biggest need in the off season?
DD: If you listen to Head Coach DeMeco Ryans, he spoke in broader terms about what the Texans need to improve. He pointed to finishing games better, and not making critical mistakes by shooting "themselves in the foot".
Offensively, Houston needs to improve in pass protection and running the ball more efficiently. On defense, they need to cut down on the explosive plays allowed.
Those things doomed them in regular season losses, and came back to hurt them in the Divisional Round loss at Kansas City. C.J. Stroud was sacked eight times. After he ran six times for 38 yards and caught a 6-yard pass in the third quarter, Joe Mixon touched the ball just once in the fourth quarter for a 4-yard gain. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got loose to catch passes for gains of 49, 23 and 18 yards, as well as an 11-yard touchdown.
***Kathy, your question won you Texas Lottery Scratchoff tickets. Someone from the organization will soon be in contact with you about it.***
Rodney Linden: How you doing Drew? You think Texans will stay at 25th overall in the 1st round, or trade up or down?
DD: I'm good, Rodney. Thanks a lot for asking. Hope you're well, also. I could certainly see the Texans moving around in the NFL Draft. Executive Vice President/General Manager Nick Caserio traded out of the first round last year and acquired Minnesota second-rounders in 2024 and 2025. He made eight Draft weekend trades in 2023.
He's never been shy about maneuvering up or down in the Draft, and while I won't guarantee he'll move the first-rounder this year, it'd be a safe bet that he'll complete at least one trade at some point during Draft weekend of 2025.
Patrick Harris: Dear Drew, Do you think the Texans should focus on Interior O-Line in the Draft or address it during free agency?
DD: Both. I think they'll make moves there in both free agency and the Draft, as they do almost every offseason.
Carlos De Alejandro: Dear Drew, Any chance we'll play in the Super Bowl before I turn 80? They have 15 years.
DD: Yes sir! You're a young man, and I think the Texans will make it to the Super Bowl well before you get to your eight decade on this planet.
Ryder Carter: What do you think we will do with our first round draft pick?
DD: The only certainty is this: the Texans won't use it on a quarterback. I think any position out of the offensive line, wide receiver, defensive front-7 is on the table though. Ryans has always stressed the importance of being able to win the trenches on either side, so I could see the Texans taking the best player available on the offensive or defensive line this April. With the injury to Tank Dell, a receiver might be a first round possibility as well.
Christian Heinz: Dear Drew, "Iron sharpens Iron" was great covering the season. Will this continue for offseason and beyond? Also, what was your personal highlight in the last season?
DD: Thanks Christian, we're glad you enjoyed "Iron Sharpens Iron". It's on hiatus during the offseason, but will likely be back in August. The many who shot and edited that show did a terrific job. As far as my highlight, I would say the playoff win over the Chargers and interviewing Azeez Al-Shaair on the field after it was pretty electric.
