Fake punt success leads to 2nd Stroud-to-Collins TD of day

REG15-special

The Texans dug into their bag of tricks on special teams, and it led to a touchdown.

Facing a 4th-and-2 at Miami's 44-yard line, Houston lined up to punt. The snap from Jon Weeks went directly to Dare Ogunbowale, who galloped 35 yards up the right side of the field before being brought down at the Dolphins' 9-yard line. A Joe Mixon run was stopped for a loss on the next play, but C.J. Stroud linked up with Nico Collins for the second 6-yard touchdown pass of the afternoon. Ka'imi Fairbairn's extra point gave Houston a 20-6 advantage with 11:02 remaining in the third quarter at NRG Stadium.

Stroud, at that point of the game, had completed 13-of-20 passes for 104 yards, with two touchdowns. Collins, meanwhile, was at the 4-catch, 17-yard mark, with his fifth and sixth touchdowns of the season.

Houston's opening drive of the half stalled just inside Miami's end of the field, but the fake punt extended it. The possession wound up going 70 yards on nine plays, and burning 3:58 of game clock to start the third quarter.
