Strip-sack & fumble recovery leads to Nico Collins TD catch

REG15-nico

The Texans turned a second quarter fumble recovery into a touchdown just four plays later.

In a Week 15 home game against the Dolphins, defensive end Will Anderson, Jr. got loose and knocked the ball free from quarterback Tua Tagavailoa at Miami's 37-yard line. Defensive tackle picked up the bouncing pigskin and after a short return was brought down at the Dolphins' 28-yard line.

It was the first takeaway of the day, and it pushed Anderson's sack total in 2024 to 10.5, tying him with teammate Danielle Hunter for the team lead.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud and the offense took over, and he quickly zipped a 15-yard strike up the left sideline to wide receiver Tank Dell.

A pair of Joe Mixon runs for short gains followed, and on 3rd-and-3 at the Miami 6-yard line, Stroud bought time by scrambling to his left and firing a dart in the middle of the end zone to Nico Collins. The Ka'imi Fairbairn extra point gave Houston a 10-3 advantage with 6:45 remaining in the half.

For Stroud, it was his eighth completion of the day in 11 attempts, and his 16th touchdown pass of 2024. Collins, meanwhile, has five touchdown receptions this season.
