Chester Pitts will make the call.
The original Texan, and longtime offensive lineman for the franchise, will announce the team's third round draft pick next Friday night during the 2021 NFL Draft. Houston owns the 67th overall pick, along with seven others.
For Pitts, it's his third time to call out the name of a Texans' draft pick. This time, though, is extra special.
"It's a blast and it's a wonderful thing," Pitts said. "You get to represent your team, so there's always going to be a love you have that you just can't explain. But on top of all that, I get to take my 14-year old son with me. His birthday is May 3rd, so this makes it extra special."
Chester Pitts, III, nicknamed 'Champ', will tag along with his father to Cleveland, Ohio where the Draft will be held Thursday through Saturday. Pitts was the team's second round selection out of San Diego State in the 2002 NFL Draft. He started every game in franchise history from 2002 through 2008, and then started the first two games of 2009 before a leg injury ended his season.
In 2014, Pitts announced the Texans' second round selection of offensive lineman Xavier Su'a-Filo. Two years later, he called out receiver Braxton Miller's name in the third round. Pitts was a sports anchor for a few years at KPRC-Channel 2 after his playing days finished, and he appears on the pregame and halftime shows inside NRG Stadium when the Texans are at home. On top of all that, he was a contestant on CBS' 'The Amazing Race'. Despite all that experience, he said he'll still have a few jitters.
"When you're talking in front of the entire planet, there's always going to be some nerves," Pitts said. "But it's going to be super. I won't have too many nerves. I'll get there early and prepare and be totally ready."
Pitts played left tackle, and ultimately left guard, in nine NFL seasons with the Texans and Seattle.
Other special guests announcing Texans picks include the McNair family, head coach David Culley, Tunde Oyeneyin, Bun B and our Fan of the Year, 2 Cans Dan.
