Got a question about the Texans? Life in general? Drew Dougherty's your guy. He's been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking HERE!
Jacob Cartee: Dear Drew, Why are we not playing Tyrod Taylor? DD: Because he's on the injured reserve. Head Coach David Culley was asked Monday whether or not Taylor will come off IR for this Sunday's game against the Colts and he said, "I don't think so. Not really sure yet."
So, it sounds like the hamstring injury will keep Taylor out perhaps one more week. When it happened in Cleveland in Week 2, Taylor told Culley and the Texans he could still play, but Culley shut that idea down because he wants Taylor in this for the long haul in 2021.
While there's a chance he comes back this week, it sounds more likely he returns a week from Sunday at Arizona.
James Broderick: Dear Drew, Do you think Laremy Tunsil's injury is serious or not? And if not, will he go vs. Indy? DD: Culley termed it as a "wait and see" type of injury, so yes, it's serious enough. If a coach or player speaks after the game or the day after the game and dismisses it, usually that means the player will be able to go next week. Culley said Tunsil couldn't "punch" after the injury happened Sunday during the game. If that remains the case, then I doubt you'll see the Pro Bowler suit up at Indianapolis. Offensive linemen need to be able to use their hands violently in a game, and such an injury would keep him from playing if he's unable to punch by game time Sunday.
Edward Serialle: Dear Drew, Why don't we go get Cam Newton? He is a true veteran, and that's what we need. DD: The Texans like what they've seen from rookie QB Davis Mills. He showed a lot of improvement and was excellent on Sunday versus New England. They like him enough to draft him and have really liked his progress from when he's entered the building to now. While Taylor is out, Mills is the guy.
As for Newton, he struggled last season in New England and only played two games the year before in Carolina. There are other teams in the NFL who've had injuries or instability at quarterback this season, and none have signed Newton. That could change, but it's something to keep in mind.
Martina McCrae: Dear Drew, Will the Texans ever play a game in Germany? DD: They might. The NFL announced earlier today that Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich are in discussions to host NFL regular-season games in Germany. The Texans last played overseas in London during the 2019 regular season. In 2016 they were in Mexico City. Their time abroad may come again soon.
Dusty Torkelson: Dear Drew, Why do you always write the inactives on toilet paper? DD: It's not toilet paper, Dusty. It's either a napkin or a paper towel. I have standards, believe it or not. I'm fuzzy on the year, but around 2015 I think I was in a visiting team's press box, couldn't find a piece of paper and just scribbled the inactives down on a napkin. I took a photo, tweeted it out, got a funny reaction from it and kept it going from there.
