Got a question about the Texans?
Life in general?
Drew Dougherty's your guy.
He's been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking HERE.
Ken Depew: Dear Drew, Longtime fan, first-time caller. Coach Ryans is right about his comments on fixing all of the penalties. We can only imagine the "what-ifs" may have happened had the team not had some of those play called back due to holding or the false starts. How do the Texans go about stopping all of the false starts and illegal formations (tackles set up too far away from the line)?DD: Thanks for the question, Ken. DeMeco Ryans was emphatic about the need to correct some costly mistakes at Minnesota, and didn't offer up any excuses.
"We teach playing the game the right way and that's all that matters," Ryans said. "When you step out on the field, you play the game the right way. However they call it, they call it. It really doesn't matter. I don't want players to worry about how the refs call it. You have to go play your technique the right way and that is the only thing that matters."
There are different ways to help fix the mistakes, and having referees at practice is just one example the Texans might use this week and again in the future.
***Ken, your question is this week's Texas Lottery Scratchoffs winning question. Someone from the organization will soon be in contact with you about that.***
Billy Bishop: Dear Drew, What is the status of Joe Mixon? Will he be ready to play this Sunday?
DD: We'll see. He didn't practice at all last week, and didn't travel to Minnesota for the game. The Texans are back on the practice field today, and the injury report that's released at 3 p.m. CT will give us a better outlook for his availability on Sunday.
Ariel Alameda: Dear Drew, How soon can we find out what jerseys are being worn at each game to give fans enough time to have their fits ready?
DD: By Thursday of game week, the Texans release what uniform combo they'll wear for the next game
K.P. Ruggovich: Dear Drew, Nice leather jacket at the last home game. With Andre Johnson going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and J.J. Watt headed in next, who do you think will be the next Texan to go in?
DD: Thanks for the jacket compliment, and thanks for the question. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins isn't here anymore, and it doesn't look like he'll retire anytime soon, but he seems like a pretty solid bet. He's 555 yards shy of 13,000 for his career, and currently 23rd all-time on the all-time receiving yards list. He's led the NFL in touchdown catches in a season, been first-team All-Pro three times, and second-team two other times. He's caught 79 touchdowns as well. I believe he's a Hall of Famer.
Another to consider? Punter Shane Lechler. He was first-team All-Pro six times, and he was the punter on the Hall of Fame's All-2000's team AND All-2010's team. He finished his career with five strong seasons in Houston and is the all-time leader in punt yards. He's also a multi-time Home Run Derby Champion at the J.J. Watt Charity Classic softball games.
