Charles Omenihu trained with DeMarcus Ware this offseason | Daily Brew

After a promising rookie campaign, the arrow had been pointing up for Charles Omenihu, but he didn't waste time working to improve his skills as a pass rusher.

The Houston Texans second-year defensive lineman trained with Dallas Cowboys all-time sack leader, DeMarcus Ware, this offseason. Omenihu posted some recent videos working on pass-rush moves with Ware, a nine-time Pro Bowler who retired in 2017 after 12 NFL seasons.

"I think Chuck (Omenihu) is working hard," J.J. Watt said May 27. "He wants to make a big jump this year and that's his goal. I know that he's putting in the work to do that, and I'm looking forward to seeing him progress."

Omenihu, drafted by the Texans in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, played in 14 regular season games and racked up 13 total tackles (eight solo), two tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, five quarterback hits, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles as a rookie. He also saw action in both playoff contests, registering one total tackle and one quarterback hit.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will have his pick of pass rushers with the return of a healthy Watt, Whitney Mercilus, Jacob Martin, Brennan Scarlett and Duke Ejiofor, who missed the 2019 season with an injury.

"We've got guys that can get to the quarterback and it's all about what we can do schematically to help present those matchups so they can be successful," Weaver said.
