Texans at Chiefs | By the Numbers

REG16-bythenumbs

Although we missed facing the Chiefs in 2023, the Texans have had more than their share of games against Kansas City, especially since 2015. Let's dive into the numbers for this one on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.

7 - The Texans and the Chiefs will lock horns for the seventh time in ten years in the regular season. In the early part of that stretch (2015, 2016 and 2017), the games took place at NRG Stadium, but three of the last four have been played/will be played in Kansas City.

8 - These two teams will meet again in 2025 in Kansas City as the division matchups rotate to AFC South and AFC West next year.

*The Texans have faced no other non-AFC South foe more during that stretch (2015 - 2025) than Kansas City.

1 - The Texans first faced Patrick Mahomes in the regular season in 2019 and won that day over the Chiefs 31-24.

3 - The Texans have faced Mahomes three times since and lost all three - 2019 playoffs, 2020 first game of the regular season and 2022 at NRG Stadium.

6 - In their last game, in week 15, the Chiefs turned the Cleveland Browns over SIX times. Prior to that game, the Chiefs defense had only turned teams over ten times.

28 - Meanwhile, through 14 games, the Texans have 12 more takeaways than the Chiefs in 2024. Since the New England game in week six, the Texans have 25 takeaways, an average of nearly three a game.

3 - The last time that the Texans beat the Chiefs in 2019, DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Reid and Charles Omenihu all made key plays FOR the Texans in that win. They'll all be wearing red on Saturday, on the other sideline, and that'll be weird as heck to see.

17 - Texans WR Nico Collins had one of his lowest yardage receiving totals in his career in the win over Miami on Sunday but…

2 - …he had just his second multi-TD game of his career. He caught two touchdowns off the arm of C.J. Stroud, two of the four catches that Nico had in the game.

22.5 - Danielle Hunter (12.0) and Will Anderson Jr (10.5) have the most combined sacks for any duo in the NFL in 2024.

45 - The Texans are averaging over three sacks per game with a total of 45 in the first 14 games of the year. That sacks/game average is just .2 behind the Broncos (51 in 15 games)

90 - On top of having 45 sacks, the Texans have generated 90 tackles for a loss, over six per game. That's really impressive - only the Browns have more this season.

Okay, that's going to do it for my By the Numbers in this one - see you on SATURDAY, saying it loud enough for everyone to remember…me, included!
